Virtual Clothing
For the first half of the week, I explored the possibilities of clothing for virtual production. I researched and practiced creating custom clothes for Character Creator 4 characters and Unreal’s metahumans. Then I experimented with adding cloth simulation to the library clothes and custom clothes. I found it easiest to do the setup and bulk of it in CC4 and then fine-tune it in Unreal because importing it from CC4 sets up the basic cloth simulations and collisions in Unreal, which you can then edit in the blueprint editor of Unreal. Although it is possible to do it purely on unreal engine I think it would slow down the process. An important note is that this was all done on CC4 characters which were exported. For Unreal Metahumans, you need to position and set weights of clothing in a program like Blender. Then, you export and import the FBX file into Unreal and set the skeletal mesh of the torso to the metahuman.
