NeRF scans in Volinga
This week I have learned about how to import NeRF scans into UE5 using Volinga. To begin with, I have followed the documentation on Volinga’s official website and tried to set up the scene from sample .nvol files. It strangely not work until I deleted everything from the scene and added a customised atmosphere, so this can be something to keep in mind. Now I can finally see the sample NeRF in my scene when I turn on the Volinga play button. I also tried using the actual scans of ESC building that were made last year (summer 2022). 5 GB is the max size to upload to Volinga creator, so I used about 95 images at first. The scene is nice and clear, but I think the program got a little confused because the images were taken only from the top of buildings, so the nerf scene is shifted upside down. It would be good to have a way of telling the program where is the top and where is the bottom before exporting the model. I have also experimented with the number of scans I upload to Volinga Creator (20 vs. 90 vs. 160 images) and I have learned that regardless of the size of the files, it takes about the same time (25-30 minutes) to process and render them into a NeRF scan.
